In March, a group of Russian students came to visit and stayed with us in our homes. Now, it has been our turn to visit them in the city of Novocherkassk, in the south of Russia about two and a half hours from Ukraine. The city is situated on the River Don and has a population of about 168,000 people.

We met with the students at the airport, and it was so great to see the two girls that stayed with me Lika and Veta again. I am staying with Veta and her family and was able to meet them as well.

The night of our arrival, we had a wonderful welcome party on the river and had lots of fun.

The next day we visited a museum that told the history of the Don Cossaks, saw the Ascension Cathedral, which is the third largest cathedral in Russia, visited Ataman Palace, and then we spent some time at the park before heading home.

Our second day in Novocherkassk, we went to the city of Starocherkassk, the former center for Don Cossak culture, for the Cossak festival. You can learn more about the Don Cossaks here. After the festival, we had lunch on the bank of the River Don.

Our third day in Novocherkassk, we visited the Rostov Zoo.
