Yesterday was a fairly laid-back day. We had class and then visited the Tretyakov Gallery. What's special about this gallery is that there is a painting of my Russian teacher's great-something grandmother in it. The painting is called Boyarynya Morozova and was painted by Vasily Surikov. It is a very large painting, and one of the most famous in the gallery. To make a long story short, she was executed for being outspoken against the church and wanting to practice religion differently. Her wikipedia page is here if you want to read more about her. The painting is below. I had to use images from Google because unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures inside the gallery.

The gallery also had several other famous paintings, including "Unknown Lady" - you may recognize her from the Barnes and Noble edition cover for the book Anna Karenina! This was my favorite painting in the gallery.

Another famous painting in the gallery was that of Pushkin:

After the gallery we had dinner at a restaurant called My My (pronounced Moo-Moo in English) and then Milica, Lindsey, and I headed back to the dormitories on our own. This was my first time taking on the metro with such a small group. We got slightly turned around, but a nice younger man was kind enough to point us in the right direction after me asking him in incredibly broken Russian where the line for the university was.

Once we got back, Milica and I tackled the task of doing laundry for the first time. By some miracle, the washer and dryer settings were in English, thus we came out with all of our clothes still fitting and being the color they went in as!
